About Us

Our school is founded on 4 pillars--Christian Education, Classical Education, Parental Involvement and Accessibility.

Christian Education

You have commanded your precepts to be kept diligently (Psalm 119:4).
For us, the most important component of a successful education is through Christian discipleship. We want our children to know their catechisms and their creed--so they have a ready answer of their faith. We want our children to memorize many Proverbs--so they can live skillfully in the Fear of the Lord. We want our children to sing the Psalms--so their hearts and minds are trained to speak, rejoice, lament, and praise in a manner pleasing to God. We want our children to know the Scriptures--so they may profit from its teaching, reproofs, corrections, and training in righteousness (2 Timothy 3:16). Above all, we want our children to know Christ--in whom are hidden all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge (Colossians 2:3).

Classical Education

Picture
At Beacon Hill, we teach using classical methods--some of which have been employed for thousands of years.  Old methods are not necessarily better than new methods (There are some things the ancients and medievals practiced in education that are indefensible).  However, there is a reason some methods and studies have persisted for thousands of years.
  1. The Liberal Arts--Grammar, Logic, Rhetoric, and Math.  These are not mere "subjects."  These are the very tools that unlock all other learning.
  2. Progymnasmata--Composing through imitation and fixed forms.  Students find composition to be a delight when exercised in this way.  It is exciting, fast-paced, and challenging.
  3. Memorization--Long-recognized as a crucial method for learning to think and speak well.
  4. Socratic dialogue and questioning--The teacher, in the classical model, is not a mere lecturer, but a guide, leading the students own thoughts, drawing out from their own minds

Parental Involvement

At Beacon Hill, we understand parents to bear the primary responsibility in discipling their children.

Fathers, do not provoke your children to anger, ubut bring them up in the discipline and instruction of the Lord (Eph. 6:1 ESV).

You shall teach them diligently to your children, and shall talk of them when you sit in your house, and when you walk by the way, and when you lie down, and when you rise (Deut. 6:7 ESV).

We have designed our school out of respect for this principle:
1) One of our programs allows parents to teach on Mondays and Tuesday (see "Full or Part Time").
2) We require 25 hours of parent involvement each year.  For most parents, this involves in-class help and recess supervision.  There are, however, a multitude of ways to fulfill this requirement.

At Beacon Hill, you will find a school culture where family life is not radically divided between home and school.  You will see numerous parents helping out inside and outside of the classroom. Parents are everywhere, and we love it!

Accessibility

We do our best to keep Beacon Hill affordable to all levels of income. We offer a generous scholarship program. We will make every effort to accommodate families in need. A low household income should never mean compromise when it comes to your child's education and discipleship. See Admissions for more details.
