What We Teach
Science & Mathematics
It is a common misconception that classical education is concerned with language arts to the detriment of math and science. Not true! In actuality, some in the classical world held math to be in a higher place than any of the language arts. Modern science has by necessity thrust math into a more central place in the curriculum, and most modern classical schools respect this reality. While not neglecting the principle that the language arts are the fundamental tools of all learning, math is the primary tool God has given to us to exercise dominion over creation.
We believe math should be more than memorization and the exercise of procedures. Our math program should teach students, above all, to be problem solvers. In addition to proficiency in procedures, we want our students to be able to represent information using graphs, complete sentences, diagrams, or other methods. We want our students to learn endurance through extended problems, so that they learn many problems do not have simple, immediate solutions. The best curriculum we have found to achieve these ends is Singapore Math.
